Merchandise Design Guides
For 10+ years, I have led the creation and execution of Merchandise Design Guides for each season, driving the seasonal aesthetic and product offerings across Walgreens extensive network of over 8,000 stores.
My process began with in-depth trend research, often 1.5 years in advance, to identify the key influences for the upcoming season. I then translated these trends into a cohesive design strategy that reflected the unique identity of the Walgreens brand. This culminated in mood boards, design assets and trend-forward recommendations for the types of products to carry in the seasonal aisles.
Within the guides I developed, I presented not only the cultural and design trends that defined each season but also provided our merchant partners with essential tools, including:
Trending colors and mood boards for multiple product categories
Material suggestions, finishes, icons and typography
Custom design assets like patterns, which could be applied directly to products
Occasionally, designed actual products such as plush toys, small accessories, dinnerware and drinkware
As a result of these carefully crafted guides, we’ve seen continuous year-over-year sales growth in our seasonal aisles, strengthening Walgreens position as a go-to destination for seasonal merchandise.
